Yoga and Health The different techniques of yoga work in synergy to harmonize the various dimensions of a person. A healthy lifestyle , at the basis of yoga, is the first thing to take into consideration. The postures coordinated with breathing help to reduce muscle tensions that our body contains without us knowing it. They also increase body flexibility: joints, tendons and ligaments. Breathing exercises improve cerebral functions by bringing fresh oxygen into the brain which creates a soothing effect in all of the body as well as a rise in the energetic level. The relaxation part of yoga called Yoga Nidra, a self-centered momen t, is a powerful method to untangle emotional knots. Concentration exercises enable a preservation of the mental faculties like memory or mind acuity, and help us discover our creative potential. Meditation can be suggested in a final stage to complete the inner peace. The majority of the people who practice yoga explain that yoga has improved their lifestyle. Indeed, yoga is inseparable from health as it aims to reduce suffering. Through yoga, we search for the profound causes of sickness that is often provoked by either an imbalance in the physiological elements of the body, or a mental unrest. Thanks to a variety of tools (postures, breathing control, symbolic gestures, sounds, chants, appropriate diet, text studies, meditation …) sickness will progressively give way to a permanent state of healthiness if the student carefully follows these new life precepts. Yoga practice is a therapy where one takes full responsibility of the care they have for themselves, where one is the sole actor of his or her recovery, and where one is the sole master of his or her destiny. It is not an easy path to take but if you do so, it is pure satisfaction to see how much you can be happy and in harmony with your body and your soul.
